Retirees Taken in Texas Scam
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009Seniors are the target once again, this time in a Texas investment scam involving life settlements. I was scanning the news this morning when I came across this:
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has charged the owners of two investment plans with orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that targeted retirees and teachers.
According to the state’s enforcement action, Howard G. Judah Jr. and Gregory F. Jablonski falsely guaranteed lucrative investment returns, misrepresented their “life settlement” policy investment offerings, failed to disclose material information to investors, and committed multiple violations of the Texas Securities Act.
I hope Mr. Abbott throws the book at them. But more importantly, seniors need to protect themselves. When searching out a life settlement, make sure you know who you are dealing with. Ask them for references, do some research of your own. Maybe call the Better Business Bureau and even do some checking online.
Ultimately, it’s your money and it’s your decision. You are trusting this company or person with an awful lot. Make sure your decision to do business with them is the right one.
